Here are some common questions I get as an integrative therapist in Colchester, covering therapy sessions, fees, and how I work.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

In the first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns you may have. It’s an opportunity to explore whether we are the right fit to work together and for you to ask any questions about the process.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies for each person and depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients find short-term therapy beneficial, while others choose longer-term support. We can review progress as we go along.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a key part of therapy. However, there are some legal and ethical exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. This will be discussed in more detail during your first session.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, the full session fee will still be charged. If you provide more than 48 hours’ notice, we can reschedule or issue a credit towards a future session.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Payment for the first session is due on the day of booking. After that, payment is required at least 72 hours before each session. Payments can be made via bank transfer or cash.

How much does therapy cost?

Individual sessions are £70 for 50 minutes, in person in Colchester, online via video, or by telephone. Couples sessions are £90 for 60 minutes, in person only.

Do you offer online or telephone therapy?

Yes. I offer sessions by video or telephone to adults anywhere in the UK. Many people find online therapy just as helpful, and some find it easier to settle when they’re at home.

Do I need an ADHD or autism diagnosis to work with you?

No. I work with adults who are diagnosed, on a waiting list, or simply wondering whether neurodivergence might explain their experiences. I don’t diagnose, but therapy can be a helpful place to explore those questions. You can read more at https://samanthalappingtherapist.com/do-i-need-an-adhd-diagnosis-before-starting-therapy/

Do you work with autistic and AuDHD adults?

Yes. I offer https://samanthalappingtherapist.com/neurodivergent-therapy-colchester/ neuro-affirming therapy for adults with ADHD, autism or both. Sessions can be adapted to your sensory and communication needs, so please tell me what helps.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

The terms overlap a lot, and in the UK, many practitioners use both. Broadly, counselling often focuses on a current difficulty, while psychotherapy tends to explore longer-standing patterns and where they come from. My work can be either, depending on what you need.

What does relational therapy mean?

Relational therapy looks at how your relationships, past and present, have shaped how you feel about yourself and others. The relationship between us becomes part of the work too. https://samanthalappingtherapist.com/what-is-relational-therapy/ Read my blog post on relational therapy
